The Breath of Dawn

Performance

The Breath of Dawn

The Breath of Dawn is an invitation to witness the break of day, an immersive journey where the spectator is called to conduct an experiment tied to nature, movement, and meditation.

It’s the history of commencement, at the break of day, where the first reflections of the river are revealed, where the shadow of night is erased. Blessed moment when the sun resumes its course, reanimates contours, breaths, and currents. The breath of dawn is a magical gift to rediscover each day.

“I am captivated. It’s absolutely superb! Thank you for creating such beauty and especially, for sharing it with us.”

Artistic approach

It was following a research trip to Greenland in 2016, during which she explored the fjords on a 13-day solo kayak excursion, that Chantal Caron migrated toward a creative process tied to risk-taking and corporeality’s confrontation with the elements. Following this renewed vision, she undertook a creative photographic practice at dawn each day of January, 2016. In so doing, she discovered dawn’s strength, as well as its singular glow. This process inspired the crafting of the first Breath of Dawn opus in 2016. In placing the spectator at the heart of nature and turning them into an actor-spectator, she offers them a contemporary dance walking tour at dawn, custom-designed with a scenography that depends on the tide.
