Somber Tides finally presented in Saint-Jean-Port-Joli !
The only Québec project selected by the Canada-wide “Blue Creators” initiative, When Art Dances with the Ocean is an interdisciplinary event combining art, science, and civic engagement to raise public awareness about the preciousness of the St. Lawrence River.
Starting at 6:30 p.m., the public is invited to gather on the forecourt of the Saint-Jean-Port-Joli church for a symbolic and participatory procession leading them to Parc des Trois-Bérets. The walk will be animated by special guests as well as emerging artists from the Chantal Caron Dance School. This will be followed by a talk by marine biologist and science communicator Lyne Morissette, who will discuss the art-and-science approach that inspired the artistic direction of the film—an analysis she also presented at the American Geophysical Union (AGU24) annual meeting in Washington last December.
The film screening will be followed by a conversation with the artists and creators who contributed to the work, whose creative momentum was deeply influenced by the effects of an environmental tragedy on marine ecosystems.

To mark the event and celebrate the rapid international success of the short films, Fleuve Espace danse will also reprise the public art installation Luminescence, presented along the river throughout the month of June. This open-air immersive work reveals, from nightfall onward, all the visual poetry and emotional intensity characteristic of Chantal Caron’s films.
The event is free, but attendees must reserve their spot online. Voluntary contributions are encouraged to support Fleuve Espace danse in continuing its mission.
This project is made possible through the financial support of the Government of Québec and the MRC de L’Islet as part of the 2025 Cultural Development Agreement supporting cultural mediation activities.
