When dance steps outside, meets the landscape, and brings people together

This summer, Fleuve | Espace danse is launching an extensive tour across Québec, bringing its outdoor choreographic works to beaches, parks, villages, and urban centers.

On the program: live performances, immersive installations, and artistic projections — all deeply rooted in the landscapes of the region.

The 2025 tour highlights the growing presence of FED on the cultural scene and follows the international success of Marée Noire, the short film directed and choreographed by Chantal Caron.

Presented alongside the COP29 climate conference and selected by over 50 festivals across four continents — from Paris to New York, from Mexico to Riga — this project born on the shores of the St. Lawrence River has allowed the Saint-Jean-Port-Joli company to assert its excellence in contemporary screendance worldwide.

A Plural and Distinctive Artistic Signature

For nearly 20 years, FED has been reshaping the codes of contemporary dance by creating outdoor works deeply rooted in their surrounding environments.

Its internationally acclaimed in situ artistic signature is both sensitive and boldly engaging.

FED moves far beyond merely depicting nature: its creations offer a poetic lens on the environment, northern identity, feminism, and rural life. Each work becomes a grounded choreographic gesture — a space for dialogue between humans, the land, and the pressing issues of our time.

Marée Noire: A Short Film That Captivated the World

Filmed along the riverbanks and on the St. Lawrence’s ice floes during a snowstorm, Marée Noire depicts two marine goddesses engulfed in a tide of oil, resulting in a striking and unforgettable visual work.

After receiving the Philippe Belley Award at the prestigious Festival Regard, the film went on to earn distinctions in Lebanon, Bulgaria, Italy, Russia, Austria, Norway, the United States, and across several major Canadian festivals.

It was also selected by renowned events such as Festival Tous Courts in France and FilmFest Dresden in Germany, and even screened during major global scientific conferences, including AGU24.

A short excerpt shared by the San Francisco Dance Film Festival surpassed 2 million views on Instagram in spring 2025.
