Êtres de Bois

Performance

Êtres de Bois

An homage to the strength, power, and beauty of the iconic mammal of the woods, now on the brink of extinction: the caribou.

Using driftwood as an allegory for their precious antlers, the cervid pack is tamed, migrates, and struggles together for the survival of their species.

Beings of Wood is the fragile strength of our forests, nature, and freedom to act.

“I attended the show and it was magnificent! Thank you for this poignant work and congratulations to the artists who delivered an intensely, and invigoratingly beautiful work. ♡ Long live the caribous!”

Artistic approach

Êtres de Bois

The forest exploration residency related to the artistic approach to Beings of Wood took place in April 2023 in Vallée Bras-du-Nord, with poet Jean Désy in company. Seeking to sense the spirit of the forest and to share her nordicity quest with a rejuvenated artistic team, Chantal Caron once again pushes the limits of the in situ creative process.

Lodging in outdoor campsites, a team of eight people will consider the sounds of the words and wisdom of Mr. Jean Désy. Through guided writing workshops, forest walks, breathing workshops, and poetry evenings, the team will forge strong connections and develop a new understanding of their being in the heart of nature.
